Rebuking the Religious

December 31, 2017 Preacher: Anthony Sligar Series: Hard Words for Hard Hearts

Topic: Topical Scripture: Matthew 23:1–23:33

There are many occasions throughout the Gospels where Jesus speaks harshly to the religious folk - the Pharisees and other teachers of the law. This wasn’t just because He liked to pick fights or just the challenge of a good debate.

Jesus wanted to show where they had fallen into error; where their religious activity had blinded them from the more important aspects of faith.

Matthew 23 is one such interaction. The big question becomes what is the purpose of these hard words? And then to ask ourselves how does this rebuke from 2000 years ago speak into how we live our lives today?

This is the first of a three part sermon series by Pastor Anthony Sligar preached during the summer of 2017-18.
