Being a parent, especially a new parent, is a fascinating and challenging journey. It is full of rich rewards as well as extraordinary demands. At Disciples Church, our aim is to help parents in their God-given task of raising their children to know and trust in Jesus. The key support happens within our Missional Community Groups, and we also have the following specific ministry initiatives.
It's often very beneficial to share the pre-school season with others, particularly some experienced mums who've been down the same road and have some wisdom to offer. It's also good to spend time with other parents of young children so that the challenges and the joys of the journey can be shared together.
On the first Thursday morning of every month (during school terms) our DC Playgroup meets from 9am at the DC building in Spring Lake Village to share in the journey of parenting infants and young children. There are activities and play-time fun for the children, stories & singing, and a time for parents to catch-up over a cup of coffee.
You are very welcome to keep your small children with you during our corporate worship services. However, if you want to, you may check your toddlers (ages 1-ish to 3) in to our Creche service during the sermon time of the service. Our volunteers will care for your kids with activities, games and stories, and then you may collect them immediately at the end of the service.
DC Kids is the name for Disciples Church’s children’s ministry during both the 8:30 and 10:30am worship services. We believe that the simple message that Jesus died for our sins can, and should be taught, even to our youngest children. A primary way we do this is by using The Gospel Story Curriculum. This resource walks through the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, relating every story of the Bible to the big, unstoppable story of God’s redemptive plan. All the children from Kindy to sixth grade can participate. It is our goal that every child who participates in our ministry grows to have an accurate understanding of the Gospel, and to know where they stand in reference to the Gospel.
In addition, parents can purchase a family devotional guide called Long Story Short (Old Testament) and Old Story New (New Testament) to take home and use during the following week.
We offer classes for children from Kindy through to grade six. Our DC Kids Team is composed of members of our church, who serve on a voluntary basis.
Your Child's Safety
Disciples Church uses the ChildSafe Risk Management system to ensure that our people and our activities are appropriate and approved. Security is a priority in all our ministry activities involving children. Children and parents are checked at the beginning and end of every session through an electronic identification system intended to ensure their safety.
