At Disciples Church, our desire is for every member and regular attender to be involved in one of our Missional Community Groups. This is where you are discipled, cared for, and have opportunity to participate in the mission of the church. But life isn't always happy motoring along the freeway.
Biblical Counseling could be compared to a tow truck. As you travel down the freeway of life, the tires may blow out or the engine may overheat. The car needs to be towed to the next place where it can be serviced. Biblical Counseling is a focused and individualised application of Gospel truths to a particular situation. It's important to note that the goal is re-entry on the freeway: cars don’t travel perpetually behind a tow truck.
We believe the Bible is more than a book of facts, rather, it is truths that are intended to make a difference. God intends biblical truth to touch every area of our lives. But everyone faces moments when the truths of the Bible don't seem to make a difference. Can the Bible's hope really speak to my depression? Can the Bible's peace really speak to my anxiety? Can the Bible's love change even my marriage? At Disciples Church, we believe that the Bible speaks to all of life's problems, but sometimes everyone needs the careful thought and prayerful wisdom of another who can help us make the connections that make a difference.
The Bible speaks to every area of our lives, but the Bible isn't a recipe book for happiness. Ultimately, the Bible points us to a relationship with a person - Jesus Christ. The Bible was given to us to point us to Him and the One who is able to make all things new. We believe real and lasting change occurs when people know themselves and their problems within a living and vital relationship with Jesus Christ - this is the aim of Biblical Counselling.
